Onoclea

A monotypic (only one species) genus, related to Matteuccia. Suitable for a moisture-retentive spot. New fronds delicately coloured. Fertile fronds, upright, black, bead-like and will stand after the other fronds have died down

In common with most ferns, Onoclea has few specific wildlife attributes, although its spread by rhizomes provides a degree of ground cover for invertebrates and amphibians.
