Blechnum
Evergreen ferns, often tough fronds, with pinnules arranged pinnately. We grow a couple of species with quite differing height and spreads. With all Blechnum, a contrasting set on fronds will arise, often darker, narrower and upright. It is these fertile fronds only, which carry the spores for the next generation.
In common with most ferns, this genus has few specific wildlife values, aside from providing shelter to beneficial predator invertebrates, especially in the evergreen forms.
