Friends of Beth Chatto’s members day
On Monday 14th February, we celebrated the reopening of the Gardens, Plant Nursery, Garden Shop and refurbished Tearoom by inviting Friends of Beth Chatto’s to an exclusive members day. Garden and Nursery Director David Ward spent the day in the Woodland Garden giving snowdrop tours and answering any questions.
One of our visitors was 88 years old Geoffrey King who was taught by Beth in 1947 when she was a Teacher at Great Bentley Primary school. Geoffrey and his wife have visited numerous times over the years and recall having many conversations with Beth in the garden.
Chatto’s Tearoom renovation
During our winter closure, Chatto’s Tearoom underwent refurbishment. The door through to our Visitors Centre was blocked up, giving us more wall space, meaning we could reposition the fridges. The position of the serving counter was also moved, making the space work better for our visitors. Director Gerard Page and Jason Gozzett from our Grounds Team took on this project, working very hard to transform this space as sustainably as they possibly could by reusing and repurposing many materials already on site. We think they’ve done a fantastic job.
The new counter was moved to the right hand side of the tearoom, freeing up more space for seating.
Chatto's Tearoom is now light and spaceous.
