Waldsteinia

6 species of perennial, often used as ground-cover and the divided or lobed foliage is evergreen, or semi-evergreen. Typically yellow flowers. All parts bearing a resemblance to Fragaria, hence the common name barren strawberry. Named after an Austrian botanist and soldier, Franz de Paula Adam von Waldstein.

The flowers attract pollinators such as bees and flies, but perhaps of equal value is their ground-covering habit that affords shelter to garden invertebrates and amphibians, all part of the army of little helpers that keep so-called 'pests' in balance.
