Thalia

The flowers of Thalia dealbata are attractive to pollinators, from bees to blowflies. However that attraction is fatal for many, trapped by the mouthparts in the flower until they starve to death. Not a good look for an 'ecological and sustainable' garden. Pollinators are essential to our ecosystems and their reduction would severely impact food production, hence our decision no longer to supply it and to remove the flower spikes from the clumps in the ponds, so that the architectural leaves can still delight, and the stem-bases can provide useful structure in the water, giving invertebrates and amphibians refuge from predatory fish.
