Saponaria

Soapworts are related to Lychnis, Silene and Gypsophila, normally perennial, with flowers pink or white. Growing well in our Dry Garden, with the trailing varieties good for the rockery or to fall over a low wall. 

Whether trailer or border perennial, soapworts all produce numerous flowers over a long season. All attract pollinators, although given that in S. officinalis the floral fragrance is especially marked at night, moths may be the main target pollinators, a group well-adapted to getting to nectar at the long petal-tube. The leaves of some species are larval foodplants for moths such as the lychnis.
