Pulmonaria
Lungwort. One of the first plants to flower in the spring, regardless of the weather. Individual flowers on the same plant can be a different colour, depending upon the age of the flower. Plants with attractive silver or silver spotted foliage lasting most of the growing season. Adaptable as to soil conditions preferring a humus rich soil in part or deep shade. But will grow well in most conditions apart from waterlogged.
The early season flowers of all Pulmonaria species and varieties are a magnet for visiting pollinators, from honeybees and bumblebees to hairy-footed flower-bees and bee-flies, while the variously marbled leaves form effective shelter and protection for beneficial insect predators such as ground-beetles, and amphibians.
