Milium

From across the world's temperate regions, around 6 species of grass, with one commonly grown in the UK, M. effusum 'Aureum'. Typically, broad flat leaf blades, with airy branched flowerheads. Often from mixed woods, but also from dry open habitats.

As with all patch-forming grasses, established plants provide a sheltered microhabitat for beneficial insects such as ladybirds, although being largely deciduous this doesn't persist into the winter months.
