Hebe

Previously a group of evergreen trees and shrubs, from the Southern Hemisphere. Adaptable as good for coastal planting, gardens and landscape planting. There are also some quirky foliage forms, for the adventurous, like Veronica poppelwellii and Veronica cupressoides.

The flowers of all shrubby Veronica species are produced freely and are very attractive to bumblebees and honeybees in particular. The taller shrub forms can form substantial bushes or hedges, and so be used by nesting birds. Some are becoming established outside of cultivation, so steps should be taken to limit their spread.

All Hebe have now been renamed under Veronica.
